Nathan Kanning, MD, FACS

 

Nathan Kanning, MD, FACS is board certified in general surgery from the American Board of Surgery. Dr. Kanning earned his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon. He has been practicing general surgery in Sandpoint since 2008.

 

Dr. Kanning is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. In 2009, he was awarded the Nizar N. Oweida Scholarship recognizing a general surgeon looking to advance the quality and care given to a rural community.

 

His surgical interests include hernia management, minimally invasive procedures, breast cancer management and surgical endoscopy. Dr. Kanning is a member of the clinical teaching staff for Idaho State University Physician Assistant Program. He also enjoys instructing medical students from the University of Washington School of Medicine.

 

Dr. Kanning serves Bonner General Health as the Chairman of the Quality Committee to improve patient outcomes through process improvement.

 

In his free time, Dr. Kanning enjoys local outdoor activities with his family including skiing and boating.  He currently serves as the president of the Sandpoint Nordic Club and supports multiple philanthropic organizations.
